The gypsum plasterboards for dry construction were actively introduced in Bulgaria in the mid 90s. Till then they have been imported and used a couple of times during the construction of the Grand Hotel Varna and the Albena Casino. The introduction of the dry construction during the socialist times had started with the construction of the plant for gypsum fibreboard panels in the town of Vidin, which had a world class quality equipment from Germany. The Ministry of Construction started to train University and High School construction specialists and to implement pilot projects. This process however, was affected by the political and economic changes after which the market of gypsum fibreboard panels has fallen down to its minimum, as well as the quality of the product. With the gradual recovery of the Bulgarian economy in the mid 90s, the construction business started booming and some foreign companies invested a lot of efforts and financial means in order to promote the new, contemporary construction technologies, among which were the dry construction and the finished gypsum products. The working materials were mainly imported. The Bulgarian manufacturers had orientated towards the processing of natural gypsum in the finished products and in that way satisfied part of the market demands.
As far as the raw materials were concerned, a huge potential had been discovered after the start up of the flue gas desulphurization plants of the thermal power stations. There are two final results from this technological process – industrial quantities of gypsum, which can be used for further processing, are produced and the gypsum itself does not pollute the environment. All this favoured the factors, which lead to the first local Bulgarian manufacturing of gypsum plasterboard panels – a well developed market and good quality raw materials.

The start up works will commence in a few months. They will be lead by a team of specialists from the main equipment supplier the German company Grenzebach (www.grenzebach.com), for calcination of REA gypsum, gypsum plasterboards and dry gypsum mixtures – M-tec (www.m-tec.com) and the respective sub-contractors. With the successful start-up of the installations the quality of the production in accordance with the Bulgarian and EU legislation and good construction practices, will be guaranteed.
