During the Bulgaria’s accession process to EU our country was obliged to follow the European norms and policies for environmental protection. Actual outcome in relation to the preservation of the purity of air in the vicinity of the largest producers of electricity in Bulgaria fall into the normative parameters of concentration of sulfur dioxide. According to data from the Control system of air quality show that in-between 1st January 2007(when Bulgaria was accessed to EU) and 1st January 2009 there is only one average increase of sulfur dioxide – at 4.00 p.m. on 11th December 2008. Then the automatic measurement station (AMS) in Stara Zagora has indicated 395 µg per cubic meter dioxide where the norm is 350 µg per cubic meter. Unlike the previous 2006, 2005 and 2004 when the figures reach over 900 micrograms per cubic meter.
