TECHNOGIPS is active in three basic areas – calcination of gypsum, production of gypsum board, and production of drywall gypsum compounds. The main input material for the production is industrial gypsum. Gypsum is produced in the electrical power generation process in the Maritza Iztok 2 TPP. The flue-gas desulphurisation installation is obligatory.  The process for industrial gypsum generation is called desulphurisation by wet means and it is based on the simple chemical reaction of calcium (in the form of limestone mass) binding with sulphur dioxide, oxygen and water. A product of the reaction is the calcium sulphate (gypsum). The gypsum has the same chemical formula and characteristics as the natural gypsum.

The industrial gypsum is a product, which we process further; that is why we receive guarantee for the gypsum quality by the manufacturer. The quality characteristics and the criteria for them are specified by the international branch standards and are subject to the relevant control.

The TECHNOGIPS manufacturing technology covers three basic areas – calcination of gypsum, production of gypsum boards and production of drywall compounds.

In all cases, the first step in the production processes is the calcination of the raw material. The calcination of gypsum is also called burning and represents the removal of water from the gypsum; Ca2SO4 is obtained from Ca2SO4x2H2O through temperature increase. The Calcination installations usually work on gas and the TECHNOGIPS’s installation is no exception.

The gypsum boards are introduced for the first time, as a construction material, at the end of the 19th century (1888, Rochester). They represent a gypsum core, sheathed in paper. The gypsum board production line involves several sequential operations. First, the compound is mixed and poured onto the line; next, a carton is added and boards are cut into shape; then, they are burned and come out of the line in a ready-to-use form, loaded on pallets.

 

 

The third area – the drywall gypsum compounds –is well known since ancient times (even the Pyramid of Cheops is plastered with gypsum) and due to the plenty of specific characteristics of the gypsum, it is a preferred type for construction today.
